2-Stroke or 4-Stroke
4-stroke verse direct injected
2-stroke
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO GET THE FACTS!
4 Stroke Cons-
Performance - poor torque curve - most lack power at all
R.P.M. ranges - harmonic motor vibrations that can shake
the entire boat at different R.P.M ranges. (most notable
on Aluminum boats and Pontoons)
Servicing - Requires much more service than a 2 Stroke.
All 4 Strokes require, crank case oil changes - valve &
belt maintenance - they have a shorter spark plug life -
most small 4 Stk. Motors can not be stored on their side
or laid down on the floor.
(READ THE HONDA or YAMAHA
OWNERS MANUAL BEFORE YOU GET STUCK WITH MAJOR ANNUAL
MAINTENANCE FEES THAT THE DEALER FORGOT TO TELL YOU ABOUT,
BEFORE YOU PURCHASED YOUR NEW BOAT)
Failing to follow the detailed maintenance schedule from a
four-stroke manufacturer can void the engine's warranty.
Most service Centers do not have many of the service parts
in stock, due to many running changes and constantly
up-dating of the product. (ASK YOUR DEALER IF THE THEY
HAVE A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF SERVICE PARTS IN-STOCK) MOST
DO NOT!
Also most service centers lack the trained staff and up
to-date service equipment required to service this type of
engine.
(GO TALK TO A SERVICE PERSON AND ASK THEM, NOT THE
SALESMAN)
Clarks Landings, take on what type of Motor to choose!!
Don't get caught up in the Hoop-La about what is better a
2 Stroke or a 4 Stroke, most people you talk to about this
subject tend to compare 10 to 20 year old 2 Stroke motors
to today's newer 4 Stroke motors. So you are not getting
the full story or a fair comparison. In most all cases the
Direct injected 2 Stroke E-Tec is a Better chose than any
4 Stroke.
If you are still on the fence on the best way to go you
should look at the DI (direct injected) Motors on the
market today.
Such as the Evinrude's Ram injected and E-TEC Outboard
Motors this will give the best of both worlds.
This gives you the Power and torque of the 2 Stroke and
the smoothness and easy starting of a 4 Stroke.
Also it is as fuel efficient as any 4 stroke and most
cases even better. (YES BETTER)
The cost of a DI or E-TEC (direct injected) Motor, tends
to run about the same as a 4-stroke motor of similar
horsepower.
E-TEC motor's
are the lowest maintenance outboards and are
the cleanest on the environment! "YES CLEANER THAN
VIRTUALLY ALL 4-STROKES"
No valves to adjust, no oil
filter to change, no scheduled maintenance for three
years.
Good luck in choosing the right engine for your needs and
remember lucky for you Clarks Landing has the service
staff that can keep you on the water with whatever engine
you choose.
